University of Washington Announces Transformational Leadership Gift to Launch Softball Facility Renovation Project

SEATTLE – The University of Washington has received a transformational leadership gift from Tom McFarlan to launch a multi-phase renovation of the Huskies' softball facility, Director of Athletics Pat Chun announced today.
The project, planned in two phases and estimated at $22 million, is a significant investment in Washington Softball's future, enhancing student-athlete support and elevating the fan experience for one of the premier programs in collegiate softball.
"We are incredibly grateful for Tom's leadership gift and the momentum it creates for Washington softball," said Chun. "This is an important step in bolstering one of the premier college softball programs in the country, and it will meaningfully enhance the experience for our student-athletes and fans. We are fortunate to be part of a community that cares deeply about UW Softball, and with Coach Tarr's extraordinary leadership, we are excited about the future of this program."
Phase 1 of the project will focus on critical enhancements to the day-to-day experience of Huskies student-athletes, including newly renovated team spaces, locker rooms, and dugouts, as well as improvements to fan amenities, the press box, and expanded broadcast capabilities.
Phase 2 will build on that momentum by expanding seating and potentially adding a canopy roof over chairback seating, creating a more dynamic and comfortable game-day environment for fans while further elevating the program's national profile.
For head coach Heather Tarr, the project represents a meaningful step forward as Washington continues to compete at the highest level.
"From our rich legacy to the next chapter - the major renovation at Husky Softball Stadium is a game-changer for our program," said Tarr. "It will elevate how we compete, develop talent, and recruit the best student-athletes who are excited to be Huskies.
