
Washington Splits Opening Day Of Candrea Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington softball split a pair of Top 25 matchups on day one of the Candrea Classic on Friday. The Huskies fell in the opening game, 5-1, to No. 11 Alabama but bounced back with a 6-2 victory over No. 16 Arizona.

Sophomore catcher Jadyn Glab got things going with a first pitch home run. It is the second homer of her career with her first coming in the 2024 season opener versus Nebraska.
Alabama responded with five unanswered runs – one in the second, three in the third and one in the sixth.
Morgan Reimer (0-1) made her first career start in the circle, going 5.1 innings. She struck out four.
Eleven Huskies made their debut in the Purple and Gold in game one – Alexis DeBoer, Charity Sevaaetasi, Alycia Flores, Riley Peschek, Gabi Toney, Addie Craig, Morgan Reimer, Ava Carroll, Tia Durst, Rylee Rehbein and Sophi Mazzola.

Arizona jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings, but the Huskies responded with five runs of their own.
Fifth-year senior Charity Sevaaetasi sent her first home run as a Dawg over the center field wall to tie the game at two apiece. Riley Peschek had a three-run homer in the following inning to give UW a 5-2 lead.
Stevie Hansen got her first start as a Husky, going 2.1 innings with a strikeout. Sophia Ramuno (1-0) came on in the third to pick up her first win. Ramuno went 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
Three more Huskies made their debuts with Jade Bubke, Hansen and Ramuno.
The Huskies are back for day two of the Candrea Classic on Saturday. Washington will face No. 11 Alabama (8:30 a.m. PT) and Western Michigan (1:30 p.m. PT). Both games will be streamed on FloCollege and live stats will be available at HuskyStats.com.
