CARY, N.C. - Washington makes its second College Cup appearance on Friday in the national semifinal match against No. 16 Furman. The Huskies will kick off at 3 p.m. PT with the match broadcast on ESPN U with live stats available at Huskystats.com.
COLLEGE CUP HUSKIES
Washington returns to the College Cup for the second time in the last five years after a 3-1 victory over No. 4 seed Maryland.
Washington enters the final four of the NCAA Tournament with a 14-6-2 record and a second place finish in the Big Ten regular season standings.
The Huskies become just the second team ever to advance to the College Cup after four road victories in the NCAA Tournament in 2025. UMBC was the first to achieve the feat in 2014, ultimately falling in the semifinal round to Virginia.
SCOUTING THE PALADINS
Furman own a 16-1-5 record on the season and is coming off a 1-0 win over No. 8 seed Portland in the Elite Eight round. The Paladins have scored 50 goals on 55 assists this season while holding opponents to only 19 goals. They're led offensively by Diego Hernandez with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 total points.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be only the second meeting between Furman and Washington. The teams fought to a draw in the only other meeting in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2014. Washington advanced with a 6-5 result in penalty kicks.
LAST MEETING (11/24/2014)
SEATTLE – No. 12 Washington earned perhaps the most dramatic victory in program history, advancing in penalty kicks in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Spencer Richey saved Furman's penalty kick in the ninth round of the shootout for the Dawgs to prevail.
Washington originally trailed in the shootout after missing their first three shots, but clawed back in it, making six in a row, while Richey made a couple big saves. Beau Blanchard made his penalty in the eighth round, setting up the winning save for the Dawgs senior goalkeeper.
The two teams played to a 0-0 draw in regulation, despite Washington having perhaps its most complete performance in weeks. Washington outshout Furman 24-10 for the game and controlled the majority of the possession.
The Huskies pressured for the winning goal all the way through overtime, but were unable to convert. Mason Robertson had seven shots, including two on goal to lead the Washington offense.
The scoreless draw meant the game would be decided by penalties and things looked bleak after the Huskies missed their first three. Ian Lange made in the fourth round to get the Dawgs back in it, but after Furman also made that round, meaning UW trailed 2-1 heading to the final shooter.
In the fifth round, James Moberg calmly made his PK, but Furman had a chance to win it in the bottom of the round. This is when Richey came up huge for the first time, saving the driven shot to keep the Huskies alive.
Going to extra rounds both teams were on point. Steven Wright converted in the sixth round, Richey himself in the seventh, then Henry Wingo in the eighth and Blanchard in the ninth. Each time the Paladins had the answer until that ninth round when Richey came through with his second huge save, this time to move the Dawgs to the Sweet 16.
It was an exciting finish to what was a game the Huskies had their chances to put away earlier.
The Dawgs controlled possession and had the vast majority of the chances in the first half. Washington had 10 shots to just two from Furman, including a Justin Schmidt header off the post. Just 11:31 into the game, Moberg sent in a corner kick that found the head of Schmidt. He redirected the ball near post, but bounced off the woodwork.
Schmidt's near goal came just after Josh Heard was denied by the Furman goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the near post. Overall, the Dawgs would put four shots on goal in the half as Cristian Roldan, Wright and Heard a second time all tested the Furman keeper.
DAWGS DOWN TERRAPINS
Washington defeated the top-remaining seed No. 4 Maryland 3-1 on Saturday to secure a spot in the 2025 College Cup. Osato Enabulele, Charlie Kosakoff, and Alex Hall fired in the goals to secure the victory.
Despite going down 1-0 early in the match, Enabulele found the equalizer before halftime. The Huskies grew into the game well and took over completely in the second half. Goals from Kosakoff and Hall sent Washington to its second-ever College Cup.
HERMANN TROPHY SEMIFINALIST
Richie Aman has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, college soccer's most prestigious award. He becomes Washington's first semifinalist since Ilijah Paul in 2022.
Aman has been one of the nation's best distributors this season, tallying 13 total assists, tied for the second-most in a single season in program history. He's also tallied multiple assists in a game on six occasions, most recently connecting for two against No. 4 seeded Maryland in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.
In addition to his prowess as a passer, Aman has connected for multiple key goals. He scored the double overtime winner against Oregon State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and also bagged the game-winning goal at Wisconsin. In total, he has four goals to go along with his 13 assists for 21 total points.
ALL-REGION HONORS
Five Huskies were honored as United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections, the organization announced on Tuesday. Richie Aman and Harrison Bertos headlined the list as first team honorees, Jadon Bowton and Charlie Kosakoff were named second team selections, and Alex Hall rounded out the group as a member of the third team.
The five selections are the most Washington has had since 2022. Aman and Bowton are also both two-time selections after earning the All-Region honor in 2024.
ROAD DAWGS
The Huskies have claimed all four of their tournament wins away from Husky Soccer Stadium. 2025 is also the first season in which Washington has advanced to the quarterfinal round without a first round bye.
In three of Washington's previous four runs to the quarterfinals, the Huskies have played at least two games at home during the NCAA Tournament. The fourth occasion came in the spring of 2021, when all games were neutral site matches in North Carolina due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

KOSAKOFF STUNS STANFORD
Washington used a stout defense and clutch offensive play to secure an Elite Eight appearance with a 1-0 win over No. 12 seed Stanford last weekend. Charlie Kosakoff recorded the game-winning goal in the 88th minute, heading home a ball from Zach Ramsey. Gabe Fernandez was also credited with an assist on the play.Jadon Bowton and the Husky defense faced 23 shots and recorded five saves while earning their second consecutive postseason shutout. The Huskies move onto the Elite Eight for the fifth time in program history with the win.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
With the win over SMU, Washington claimed its 12th win of the season, marking the 12th occasion in Jamie Clark's 15 years on Montlake the team has won at least 12 games. It's also the 12th time Clark has led the Huskies into the NCAA Tournament.
The last time the Huskies advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament was in 2021 when Washington made its first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship match.
OFFENSIVE ONSLAUGHT
The Huskies have tallied 48 total goals this season, matching the most goals UW has scored under Jamie Clark's tenure (48 - 2021 & 48 - 2022).
