Huskies Conclude Day One of ITA Sectional Championships

SEATTLE – The Huskies concluded the first day of the ITA Sectional Championships Thursday inside Nordstrom Tennis Center Thursday, with three doubles duos and three singles players advancing in the tournament.

Both of UW's ranked doubles teams earned round of 32 wins Thursday, including No. 64 Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit notching a ranked win over No. 58 Alvarez Sande and Murphy from Washington State.
The 24th-ranked Marie Weissheim and Alexia Jacobs defeated West and Ho from CSUN in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Jermine Sherif and Reece Carter took down a Hawaii pair, using a 10-5 second set tiebreak to secure the victory.
The three victorious UW doubles pairs will compete in the quarterfinals beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m. inside Nordstrom Tennis Center.
In singles play, three Huskies earned a spot in tomorrow's round of 16.
Matsuda and Syrtveit each earned a ranked win in singles action. Matsuda def. #52 Emilija Tverijonaita (Arizona State), 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 while Syrtveit defeated Stanford's 98th-ranked Tianmei Wang 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5.
Carter came back after dropping a second set to defeat Utah's Emmie Moore in three and advance in the singles bracket.
