Matsuda, Carter Advance To NCAA Second Round
November 18, 2025 | Women's Tennis
ORLANDO, Fla. – Erika Matsuda and Reece Carter are on to the Singles Round of 32 at the NCAA Individual Championships at the USTA National Campus.
The Huskies are sending two singles players to the second round for the first time since Stacey Fung and Vanessa Wong did so in 2018.
Matsuda advanced to the Round of 32 with a straight set victory over #80 Serafima Shatova (Syracuse) 6-2, 7-6(3). After taking the first set decisively, Matsuda fell behind 4-2 in the second set but clawed her way back to force the tie break and get the match point.
Later in the night, Carter had two come-from-behind set wins to advance. Carter battled back in the first set after being down 4-2 to win the set 6-4. She was down 4-1 in the second set but came away with the 6-4 victory.
Doubles action gets underway tomorrow with #64 Matsuda/Carina Syrtveit and #24 Marie Weissheim/Alexia Jacobs in the opening Round of 32.
