SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
Washington looks to extend its win streak to six straight against Ohio State at home on Friday. Ohio State is currently 5-8 on the campaign with a 2-5 record in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes have lost four straight matches, most recently falling to Maryland 0-4. Ohio State is led by Marko Borkovic offensively with 13 points on five goals and three assists, despite playing in only eight matches.
SERIES HISTORY
The Buckeyes hold the edge in the all-time series between the two teams. Washington owns a 1-2-1 record against Ohio State with both losses coming last season. In the first meeting in 1989, Washington claimed a 7-1 victory, also the only matchup that has happened on Montlake.
LAST MEETING (11/10/2024)
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – No. 19 Washington was unable to come back from a three-goal deficit, falling in the Big Ten tournament semifinals to No. 1 Ohio State on Sunday at SeatGeek Stadium.
Conner Leber made his first start in the Purple and Gold. He created multiple chances for the Huskies on throw ins, but the Dawgs were not able to capitalize in the first 45 minutes.
The Huskies outshot the Buckeyes 6-3 in the first half with Leber (2) and Caden Buckley (2) leading the way. No shots for either team went on goal.
Ohio State drew a foul in the box in the 59th minute and converted the penalty kick. The Buckeyes added another a minute later and again the 72nd minute for the 3-0 advantage.
Peter Kingston recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 77th minute to cut OSU's lead to two.
FIVE STRAIGHT WINS
Washington used its same approach, early and often offense, to take down the Nittany Lions. The first 45 minutes were completely dominated by the Huskies with 12 shots and two goals for the visitors against only two attempts for Penn State.
Washington got on the board in the 26th minute when Joe Dale controlled a cross at the top of the box and laid it off for Connor Lofy. The midfielder struck it cleanly and pinned the top right corner of the goal to send the Huskies in front.It was Lofy's second goal of the season and the second assist of the year for Dale.
Eight minutes later, the Huskies doubled the lead. Joe Dale was credited with an assist in the buildup to Charlie Kosakoff, who sent a cross in the air to Zach Ramsey in the box. Ramsey caught the ball on the volley and rocketed it into the net for the second goal of the game. Ramsey now has six strikes on the year to lead the team while Dale and Kosakoff each earned their third assists of the season.
BACK TO BACK RANKED WINS
Early offense has been key during the recent win streak, and Friday's victory was no different. Joe Dale kicked off the scoring in the 10th minute, bagging his first goal of the season off the feed from Richie Aman.
With the win over Rutgers, Washington is now 7-0 on the year when scoring first and 6-0 when scoring in the first 45 minutes.
The second goal came when Richie Aman began a move in transition, finding Cameron Cruz on the left side of the pitch. Cruz delivered a ball into the box and Nick O'Brien slotted it home to double the lead.
It was the first point of the season for Cruz and O'Brien's first goal of the season. Aman, meanwhile, recorded his 10th and 11th assists of the season against Rutgers.
DOWN GOES INDIANA
Washington continued its hot streak, earning a third consecutive victory by dismantling No. 12 Indiana 3-0 at Husky Soccer Stadium. It's the Huskies' first ranked win of the season.
The Huskies took the lead just 20 minutes into the match when Richie Aman found Alex Hall on the left side of the box for an emphatic goal. Hall now has three goals on the season and it was the first of two assists on the night for Aman. The breakthrough for the second goal came in the 74th minute when an Alex Hall cross was struck perfectly on the volley by Charlie Kosakoff. Nick O'Brien was instrumental in the buildup, earning an assist on the play. Washington wasn't finished yet, however. The Dawgs found a third goal in the 83rd minute as Richie Aman's corner kick was hammered home off the head of Asher Hestad for his first career goal.
The Huskies were supported by 2,805 cheering fans on Friday night, the 13th-largest crowd UW men's soccer has seen at Husky Soccer Stadium.
HERMANN TROPHY RECOGNITION
Richie Aman was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List thanks to his impactful play all season long. Aman currently leads the nation in total assists with 11 and is second in assists per game at 0.79.
The 2025 midseason watch list was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee. A total of 15 players will be named 2025 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 9 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2025 recipient will be announced January 9, 2026, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
CLASS OF THE BIG TEN
Four of the top nine players in total points in the Big Ten are Huskies. Richie Aman leads Washington and sits second in the conference with 17 points. Zach Ramsey is right behind with 14 in fourth. Charlie Kosakoff and Alex Hall are each tied for ninth with 12 points.
As a team, Washington leads the conference in shots on goal percentage (45.4%), is third with 31 goals scored, is second in goal differential (20), second in assists (33), and fourth in shots on goal (83).
The Huskies currently sit second in the Big Ten table with 15 points, behind Maryland with 17. Washington has played one less conference match than the Terrapins.
INTO THE RANKINGS
The Huskies entered both the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer rankings last week after the ranked win over Indiana. Following another undefeated weekend in Big Ten play, Washington moves up to No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 20 according to Top Drawer Soccer. In the RPI, the Huskies are sitting at 26th.
OFFENSIVE OPPORTUNITIES
The Huskies have been applying the pressure in every game this season, recording more shots than their opponents in nine of 14 games. The Huskies currently rank 19th in the NCAA in corner kicks per game, averaging 6.29 per contest. The Huskies have scored 33 total goals, led by Zach Ramsey with six.
As a team, the Huskies' offense ranks among the best in the country as well. Washington is eighth in total goals (33), ninth in total points (102), and 11th in total assists (36).
HALL ON THE SCENE
Hall has become a crucial part of the Huskies' offense of late. He scored the game-winning goal against Indiana before assisting another strike later in the match.Against Northwestern, he provided a crucial assist to the game winner scored by Harrison Bertos. At Wisconsin, he assisted the game-winning goal against Wisconsin. And earlier this season against Gonzaga, Hall bagged his first career brace while chipping in an assist for a career-high five points. He now has 12 points on the season and has at least one point in six of the last nine games.
Hall currently ranks 24th in the NCAA and third in the Big Ten in total assists (6) and 42nd in the NCAA and sixth in the Big Ten in assists per game (.43).
WASHINGTON STATS
In addition to its top-15 marks in total goals, points, and assists, Washington is one of the best teams in the nation across the board.
The Dawgs rank 11th in points per game (7.29), 11th in goal differential (21), 11th in assists per game (2.57), 12th in scoring offense (2.36), 22nd in shots on goal per game (6.64), 26th in W-L-T percentage (.714), 28th in shots per game (14.64), 32nd in goals against average (.857), 42nd in shutout percentage (.429), and 48th in shot accuracy (.454).
Since September 16, Washington has allowed only two goals while scoring 16 of their own and collecting a 6-1 record.
TOP DISTRIBUTORS
Richie Aman and Alex Hall have distinguished themselves as two of the premier passers in the NCAA. Aman leads the country in total assists (11) while Hall is 24th in the NCAA (6). They sit first and third in the Big Ten rankings as well.
In the per game stats, Aman is second in the country and first in the Big Ten (0.79) while Hall is 42nd in the NCAA and sixth in the conference (0.43).
Aman has had multi-assists games on five occasions, including against both Rutgers and Indiana, and moves into a tie for fourth in the Husky record book for assists in a single campaign (11).
DAWG DEBUTS
12 Huskies have made their Washington debuts in the first two matches of the season. Levi Bieber, Brecken Bowers, Cameron Cruz, Clarens Dollin, Jaeger Felton, Carter Gay, Osato Enabulele, Sheehan Ganguly, Philip Kleeman, Zack Meier, and Kevin Hernandez, and Chad Sovde all featured during the first four games of the season.
BRICK WALL KEEPERS
While the Huskies offense has been hot lately, the defense has been just as impressive. Washington has shutout their opponents in the last four games, including two top-15 opponents in then-No. 12 Indiana and No. 13 Rutgers.
Bowton earned both ranked shutouts, making multiple big saves in the wins. Against Rutgers, Bowton prevented an equalizer by saving a penalty kick in addition to four other stops for a season-high five saves. Following the win over Penn State, Bowton has six victories and three shutouts on the season.
Bieber has made five starts this season and has led Washington to three shutouts and a 3-1-1 record in those games. Bowton has made seven starts, earning a 4-2-1 record with two shutouts.
Bieber tied a career-high four saves last time out while facing a career-high 19 shots in a 1-0 shutout victory at Northwestern. Earlier this season, in his second career appearance, Levi Bieber recorded his first win and shutout. Bieber has two complete game shutouts and one combined shutout on the year.
PICKED FIFTH IN CONFERENCE
Entering year two in the Big Ten conference, Washington has been picked to place fifth in the 11-team league, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Washington finished 8-6-7 last season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies ended the season with a 4-3-3 record in Big Ten play, finishing fourth in the league with 15 points.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
Washington's roster features 19 of 29 players who hail from the state of Washington. Four players claim Seattle as their hometown (Asher Hestad, Joe Dale, Cameron Cruz, and Jaeger Felton), while two each are from Spokane (Kenny Pierpoint and Jadon Bowton), and from Bellevue (Sheehan Ganguly and Chad Sovde).
CREAM OF THE CROP
In 14 season on Montlake, Jamie Clark has orchestrated the meteoric rise of Washington men's soccer, distinguishing the team as one of the nation's top college soccer programs. Prior to the start of the 2025 season, Clark has led the Huskies to a record of 175-68-40, three Pac-12 titles, and 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament. Of those postseason appearances, Clark's Huskies have made four trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals, including three straight NCAA Quarterfinals appearances from 2019-21.
Clark currently ranks seventh in winning percentage among active head coaches with a .696 percentage in 17 career seasons.
FRESH FACES
The Huskies welcomed six freshmen to the squad this fall. Kenny Pierpoint (GK), Clarens Dollin (MF/F), Carter Gay (D), Kevin Hernandez (MF), Zack Meier (D), and Osato Enabulele (MF) all enter their first season on Montlake. In addition to the first years, the Huskies also welcomed Cameron Cruz (MF), a transfer from Grand Canyon to the squad.
