Dawgs Roll Over Bulldogs In Straight Sets

BOULDER, Colo. – In the first match of three-straight at the CU Events Center in Boulder, the Husky volleyball team fired on all cylinders to sweep Fresno State, 25-14, 25-15, 25-13. Washington (3-0) was on-target offensively and locked-in defensively, hitting .434 and limiting Fresno State to just .010 on offense.
The first set was tied at 10-10 before the Huskies went on a 14-2 run to blow that one open, and UW built early leads in sets two and three to never let FSU get back into things.
"Before the match we talked about can we have really good intentionality," said Head Coach Leslie Gabriel. "Every single point we're on our assignments and staying connected with our teammates. We talked about what that would look like and I was proud of how I saw them do that from the start to the finish."
Washington had a 41 to 24 edge in kills, hitting a season-high .434. UW out-dug its opponent for the third-straight match, finishing with 37 compared to 23 for Fresno State, and leading in blocks, 9.0 to 4.0.
Kierstyn Barton had seven kills in the first set and finished with a match-high 12, hitting .364. Kiune Fletcher had seven kills without an error on 10 swings to hit .700, and Madi Endsley had seven kills, hitting .353. Emoni Bush hit .417 with six kills, and Julia Hunt had five kills, hitting .500.
Freshman Alexis Haury had 22 assists while junior Molly Wilson had a dozen. Lauren Bays finished with a team-leading 10 digs and Katy Wessels led the block with five rejections.
Up Next: Tomorrow the Dawgs will get a big challenge against a tough Georgia team that was ranked No. 25 in the preseason poll and made the last two NCAA tourneys. The match gets underway at 2 p.m. Pacific time and will be streamed on ESPN+
