SEATTLE – Waiting until the season officially changed over to fall, the Husky cross country teams are now set to make their season debuts in earnest, racing the annual Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational this Friday morning against a very strong field. Washington, ranked No. 5 nationally on the women's side and No. 27 on the men's side, gets its first look of the year at the course that will host NCAAs later this fall.
The Dawgs had an early September run along with Seattle U. out at Magnuson Park in Seattle to lead into a large training block. Now they jump in feet first to a field that includes 17 of the top-30 teams nationally on the men's side, and 15 of the top-30 teams on the women's side.
The meet will be streamed through Big Ten Plus. The women's "B" race goes first at 9 a.m. Pacific time, followed by the men's "B" race at 9:40 a.m. The women's "A" race then starts at 10:20 a.m. PT and the men's "A" race finishes things off at 11 a.m. PT.
If all goes according to plan, this will be the first of three runs over the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course for the Huskies, as UW will return for its next race, the Pre-Nationals, and then the NCAA Championships will be at Wisconsin on Nov. 23.
For the Huskies, a dozen men and ten women are traveling to Madison. The women's lineup will feature Ella Borsheim, Julia David-Smith, Chloe Foerster, Tori Herman, Saskia Lloyd, Amina Maatoug, Maeve Stiles, India Weir, Josephine Welin, and Claire Yerby.
The men are expected to run Isaac Briggs, Leo Daschbach, Thom Diamond, Jamar Distel, Tyrone Gorze, Nathan Green, Rhys Hammond, Evan Jenkins, Ben MacMillan, Ronan McMahon-Staggs, Nathan Neil, and Will Schneider.
