Whitton’s Grand Slam Sparks Comeback Win Over UCLA
April 14, 2024 | Baseball
Reilly McAdams earned the win out of the bullpen with 3.1 scoreless innings, scattering three hits with two strikeouts. Grant Cunningham fanned two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 ninth.
After picking up a pair of strikeouts in the first, Husky starter Spencer Dessart's command faltered in the second, allowing the Bruins to plate a pair.
Sam Boyle came on to collect the final out in the second, but UCLA was able to score a run in the third and fifth off of the lefty, putting the Bruins up 4-0.
However, the Huskies turned the game on its head in the sixth. Blake Wilson got things started with a sharp single to center, chasing UCLA starter Landon Stump. Three pitches later, Aiva Arquette was plunked before AJ Guerrero shot a single through the right side, putting the Dawgs on the board.
Cam Clayton's infield single scored another run, and Braeden Terry followed with a bunt single, bringing Whitton to the dish. Facing a 1-0 count, the San Diego native put a charge into a heater over the middle of the plate, sending a 111 MPH rocket into Union Bay to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead.

McAdams and Cunningham did the rest to close things out, giving UW its second straight home series in Pac-12 play.
The Huskies remain at Husky Ballpark to close out their five-game homestand Tuesday, hosting Portland at 4:05 p.m. PT. The game will be available on Washington Live Stream 2.
