Late Rally Lifts Stanford Over Huskies, 4-2
March 09, 2024 | Baseball
SEATTLE βΒ Washington fought back twice to tie the game Saturday against Stanford but a two-run eighth proved costly as the Cardinal won 4-2 to secure the series at Husky Ballpark.
Β
Husky Starter Calvin Kirchoff struck out a career-high six batters over 4.0 innings, but took a no decision. Sam Boyle took a tough loss, allowing two unearned runs despite not allowing a hit over 4.1 frames of relief.
Β
A solo home run in the first gave Stanford an early lead, but a bases-loaded walk issued to Cam Clayton in the second evened the score at a run apiece.
Β
The Cardinal once again went in front in the fifth on a leadoff homer by Malcolm Moore, but Aiva Arquette answered with a towering blast of his own in the home half, tying the game.
Β
A fielding error to start off the ninth came back to bite the Dawgs as two runs came across for Stanford. The Huskies put the tying run in scoring position in the bottom half but back-to-back strikeouts snuffed out the threat and ended the game.
Β
Washington and Stanford will conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT. Sunday's affair will be streamed on Washington Live Stream 2.
