Huskies Win Third In A Row Behind Three Second Half Goals
September 03, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Huskies scored three second half goals Sunday afternoon, soaring past CSUN (0-5-1) 3-0 to make it three wins in a row at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Despite hitting the locker room for the halftime break deadlocked in a scoreless tie, Washington (4-1-1) dominated the pace of play in the opening frame. The Huskies outshot the Matadors 14-1 in the half, finishing with a 25-12 advantage for the match.
Olivia Juarez and Megan Nail teamed up to complete the clean sheet, with Nail making the one save required.
Ioanna Papatheodorou nearly gave the Huskies an early advantage in the 11th minute. Taking a direct free kick from just outside the 18, the junior's strike was true but clanged on the crossbar to deny the opener.
The Huskies headed into halftime scoreless but just six minutes into the second half, Radisson Banks put the home team ahead with her third of the season.
Receiving a Jadyn Holdenried backheel at the top of the six, the freshman turned her defender and cut onto her left, slotting the ball into the dead center of the goal.
After setting up the opener, Holdenried gave UW some insurance in the 74th minute, tucking a shot from the top of the box just inside the far post to make it 2-0.
