Fay, Lumb Win National Titles In Ireland, Canada

SEATTLE -- More Huskies reigned as National Champions today around the world as past and present Dawgs kept their track seasons thriving. Brian Fay and Kieran Lumb won their first senior championships for Ireland and Canada, respectively, while rising senior Sophie O'Sullivan took second at the Irish Championships.
Fay and Lumb, teammates who both were part of UW's historic eight-man sub-four minute mile runs this past indoor season, were the class of their countries today.
Fay broke the Ireland National Record a couple weeks back in the 5,000-meters with a stunning 13:01.40. In rainy conditions today in Dublin, Fay pulled away from the field on the final lap to win the 5k in 13:39.20.
In the women's 1,500-meters final, it was a rematch between O'Sullivan and Sarah Healy. O'Sullivan outkicked Healy, who has a 4:01 lifetime-best, to win the European U23 Championship a couple weeks back. Today Healy was able to hold off O'Sullivan as the two battled essentially one-on-one. Healy won in 4:11.39 and O'Sullivan took second in 4:12.00, while third-place was 18-seconds back.
Up north at the Canadian National Championships, Lumb took another big step to earning a spot at the World Championships as he took the 1,500-meters title in 3:37.24. Another Husky sub-four miler, Aaron Ahl, was sixth in the final in 3:42.45.
In the women's 1,500-meter final in Canada, Husky senior Madison Heisterman ran a season-best 4:15.42 to finish seventh overall. Former Husky Roan Allen took third in the men's javelin final with a best of 228-7.
