Five-Run Fourth Lifts Huskies to 6-2 Win in Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. โ Trailing briefly Saturday night, Washington (27-14, 12-10 Pac-12) seized control in the middle innings against Washington State (27-18, 8-14 Pac-12), evening the Boeing Apple Cup series with a 6-2 win at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Kiefer Lord picked up his fifth win of the season, delivering seven-plus innings with two runs allowed. Josh Emanuels relieved Lord in the eighth, collecting the final six outs.

The Cougars were the first on the board, plating a run on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Russell. However, after that it was just about all Dawgs.

Johnny Tincher tied the game in the third inning, pulling a solo bomb over the wall in left-center, deadlocking the score at a run apiece.

Washington then took the lead in the fourth and broke things open as the inning went on.

Walks by Sam DeCarlo and Cam Clayton sandwiched a bunt single by McKay Barney, loading the bases for Tincher. The Husky backstop yanked an RBI single into left to give the Huskies the lead and AJ Guerrero followed by drawing an HBP to bring in another run.

Jeter Ybarra took the second pitch he saw into right, bringing home Clayton and Tincher and Aiva Arquette finished off the frame with a run-scoring single to center to scratch across Guerrero. By innings end, it was 6-1 Huskies.

The Cougars threatened to cut into the Husky advantage in the fifth, loading the bases on a single, a walk and an intentional walk. Instead, Lord induced a weak ground ball to Michael Snyder at third, who tapped the bag to retire the side and end the threat.

Wazzu got a run back in the eighth on a solo home run and put a runner on third later in the inning but Emanuels was able to evade further damage before finishing things off in the ninth.

โข Johnny Tincher's third-inning home run snapped a string of 14 straight games without a big fly by the Husky catcher.
โข Tincher went on to post two singles, matching his season-high with three hits on the night.
โข With a first inning single, Coby Morales extended his reached-base streak to 21 games, the longest streak at UW since Braiden Ward reached in 23 straight in 2018.
