
Washington Falls in Pac-12 Tournament Opener

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. β Washington (33-17, 17-12 Pac-12) fell behind early on Wednesday and couldn't climb out of the hole, falling to UCLA (24-26, 12-18 Pac-12) in its Pac-12 Tournament opener 17-4 in seven innings.

Jared Engman took the loss on the hill, moving his record to 3-4.

After both teams went in order in the first, UCLA took a 4-0 lead after stringing together six singles.

The Huskies got a run back in the third with a two-out rally, with Will Simpson's single driving in Sam DeCarlo. However, UCLA hit back-to-back homers in the bottom half, ultimately plating three.

Washington answered again in the fourth. Johnny Tincher dropped a single into left-center to bring around AJ Guerrero. Tincher would go on to score on a fielding error at shortstop, scooting all the way around from second.

The Bruins once again shot back with three runs in the home half and after Coby Morales' solo shot in the fifth got a run back, the Bruins posted seven in the bottom of the fifth to seize firm control at 17-4, ultimately the final score.
