Washington Tops Seattle U 9-4 on the Road
May 02, 2023 | Baseball
BELLEVUE, Wash. β Washington (26-13) trailed briefly on Tuesday but ultimately proved too much in its road game at Seattle U (15-26), taking down the Redhawks 9-4 at Bannerwood Park.
Β
Calvin Kirchoff improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing three runs on six hits over five full frames with a pair of strikeouts. Reilly McAdams pitched three shutout innings, while Grant Cunningham finished off the ninth.
Β
The Redhawks opened scoring in the second as Matt Boissoneault hit a solo shot over the right field fence.
Β
The Huskies answered right back in the top of the third, putting together a two-out rally to grab the lead. After a wild pitch tied the game, Coby Morales crushed a two-run blast to center, putting UW up 3-1.
Β
Seattle U got those two runs back in the bottom half of the inning, first on a pinch hit home run from Cameron Dayton and then on an RBI single by Boissoneault.
Β
Will Simpson put the Huskies right back ahead in the fourth, narrowly missing a three-run blast and having to settle for a two-run double high off the wall in left-center.
Β
Nick Hovland added a run in the fifth with a no doubt solo bomb to left and Washington tacked on three more in the sixth to create some breathing room. The first came in on a bases loaded walk, before Michael Brown brought home AJ Guerrero with a sac fly. Morales finished scoring for the frame, coming home on a wild pitch to make it 9-3.
Β
Dayton hit his second home run of the day in the ninth to pull SU closer but it was too little, too late as UW improved to 2-0 over its Emerald City neighbors.
Β
QUICK HITS
β’ AJ Guerrero and Coby Morales each extended their reached base streaks to 19 games, the longest streaks for the Huskies since Nick Kahle reached in 20-straight and Ramon Bramasco reached in 19-straight in 2019.

β’ Nick Hovland's fifth-inning home run was his first hit of the season and his first big fly in a Husky uniform.

β’ Calvin Kirchoff's five innings were his most in an appearance this season.
