Dawgs Complete Sweep of No. 24 Ducks, Win Sixth Straight
May 14, 2023 | Baseball
Β
After starter Jared Engman was lifted after three innings, Case Matter came on in relief for three scoreless frames to pick up the win. Josh Emanuels locked down the save, finishing the final three innings.
Β
The two sides punched back-and-forth in the early going. After Cam Clayton led off the game with a homer to left, Oregon countered with a two-run shot in the second to take the lead.
Β
Clayton produced a run nearly by himself in the third to tie the game. The Husky shortstop led off the frame with an infield single. The Oregon native then stole second, moved to third on a ground ball and scooted home on a wild pitch, deadlocking the score at two runs apiece.
Β
However, Oregon responded with a run in both the third and the fourth to reclaim the lead, going up 4-2.
Β
Just when it looked like the Husky bats might have cooled, Michael Snyder flipped the script, hammering an opposite field three-run bomb to right, turning the two-run deficit into a one run lead.
Β
The Dawgs didn't stop there. Following a Clayton walk, Will Simpson smacked a double down the left field line and Johnny Tincher followed with an RBI single, turning the two-run hole into a four-run lead by inning's end.
Β
Oregon drew a run back in the seventh but the Huskies sealed the deal in the ninth, giving themselves some breathing room. After AJ Guerrero drove in a run with a single to left, Cole Miller and Tincher notched back-to-back run scoring singles to stretch the lead out to 11-5.
Β
Emanuels completed the sweep in convincing fashion, striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth to run the Huskies' winning streak to six games.
