UW Secures Series with Convincing 18-8 Win Over No. 24 Oregon
May 13, 2023 | Baseball
Kiefer Lord picked up his third win in a row, allowing five runs over five innings, striking out five. Grant Cunningham completed the final four frames, earning his third save of the year.
Within the blink of an eye, Washington was in firm control, batting around before a single out was recorded.
Four-straight singles from Cam Clayton, AJ Guerrero, Coby Morales and Will Simpson got a pair of runs home. Johnny Tincher was then hit by a pitch and Jeter Ybarra followed with a double to left field, scoring two more.
After Aiva Arquette was walked, a failed pickoff attempt allowed Tincher to come home. Michael Snyder then slugged a two-run double to right-center and Sam DeCarlo capped the run with a bang, hammering a two-run blast well past the wall in left-center. Before the Ducks could put an out on the board, it was 9-0 Dawgs.
A solo homer in the third got Oregon on the board, but UW responded with a Simpson RBI double in the fourth, extending the lead to 10-1.
While Oregon started to put pressure back on the Huskies with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. However, a seven run sixth inning gave Washington more than enough breathing room back.
Morales got things started with an RBI double to right and Ybarra followed with a single down the third base line with the bases loaded, bringing in a pair. Snyder found some grass with a flair to left, plating Tincher.
Sam DeCarlo followed with an RBI groundout and Cam Clayton provided the capper to the frame, shooting a single up the middle to bring in two more and make it 17-5.
The Dawgs and Ducks traded a run in the eighth, Washington's coming on Snyder's sacrifice fly, and Oregon pulled two more back in the ninth but by then it was academic as the Huskies locked up its third straight Pac-12 series.
