Huskies Host Utah Valley On Sunday

SEATTLE β No. 10 Washington returns to Husky Softball Stadium for one final home contest of the regular season, hosting Utah Valley on Sunday at 11 a.m. The game will also air on Pac-12 Washington.

30 SEASONS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL
2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Washington softball. The Huskies first year as a program was in 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been a part of 24 of 30 seasons in the Purple and Gold as a player, manager and coach.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies had their second midweek contest of the season and came away with a 3-0 shutout of crosstown rival Seattle U. Lindsay Lopez and Ruby Meylan combined for the one-hitter.

SENIORS SHINED ON SENIOR DAY
Last Sunday, the seniors shined in the series finale against Utah. Baylee Klingler, Madison Huskey, Sami Reynolds, SilentRain Espinoza, Jadelyn Allchin and Brooke Nelson combined for all nine of Washington's hits. Kelley Lynch also picked up the save.

NOT ACTING LIKE FRESHMAN
The four freshmen have contributed a lot to the Husky program so far in 2023. Alana Johnson is fifth on the team with 20 RBI and third with seven home runs. Ruby Meylan is nationally ranked in shutouts (6), strikeouts (164) and saves (6). Brooklyn Carter is a force on the base paths, leading the team and second in the conference with 24 stolen bases. Sydney Stewart has split time at catcher with a .290 average and seven RBI.

WHAT A WEEK FOR BK
Last week, Baylee Klingler was drafted second overall in the Women's Professional Fastpitch 2023 Draft by the Texas Smoke based out of Austin. Klingler was also honored as one of 25 finalists for USA Softball National Player of the Year.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Utah Valley is 14-27 on the season and 10-10 in WAC play. The Wolverines are led at the plate by Megan Gibbs with a .314 average, 10 home runs, eight doubles and 36 RBI. In the circle, the pitching staff holds a team ERA of 4.40. Katie Zuniga leads the staff with eight complete games and 59 strikeouts. Washington is 6-0 all-time vs. Utah Valley. The Huskies are 3-0 against the Wolverines at Husky Softball Stadium including a 9-1 six inning win last season.

INAUGURAL PAC-12 TOURNAMENT
Arizona's Hillenbrand Stadium will serve as the host site for theΒ inaugural Pac-12 Softball Tournament, which is set to make its debut from May 10-13, 2023. The four-day event will begin with a play-in game between the eighth and ninth-place teams in the regular-season standings on Wednesday. That winner will advance to an eight-team, single-elimination bracket with the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship being contested on the following three days. The winner of the Pac-12 Softball Tournament will receive the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Limited tickets are still available by visitingΒ pac12.me/SBTix.

UP NEXT
The Huskies hit the road for the final conference series, traveling to Stanford for a three-game set beginning on Friday. The first two games of the series will be broadcasted on ESPNU and ESPN2, respectively, and the series finale on Pac-12 Bay Area.
