Guerrero’s Blast Lifts Washington to 3-2 Win over SJSU
February 25, 2023 | Baseball
SAN JOSE, Calif. – A three-run big fly off the bat of AJ Guerrero was all the offense the Huskies needed on Saturday as Washington (4-2) locked up its series at San Jose State (2-3) with a 3-2 victory at Excite Park.
Kiefer Lord picked up his first win in a Husky uniform, surrendering a single run on five hits over six innings, finishing with seven strikeouts. Jared Engman delivered two-plus innings of relief, allowing one run, while Sam Boyle and Josh Emanuels combined to get the final three outs in the ninth.
After the Spartans took a third-inning lead on an RBI double by Charles McAdoo, the Huskies responded quickly in the next half inning to turn the tide.
Johnny Tincher led off with a single before Will Simpson drew a walk. The put a pair on for Guerrero, who pummeled a pitch to dead center over the batter's eye for a three-run jack, putting UW up 3-1.
While the Huskies were unable to add onto the lead in the late innings, it didn't matter.
SJSU put together a final threat in the ninth, loading the bases with nobody out on three-straight walks. However, Boyle came out of the pen to get two outs with just one run scoring and Emanuels finished things off for the save.
