Washington Shuts Out SJSU 2-0, Secures Series Sweep
February 26, 2023 | Baseball
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Washington grabbed an early lead on Sunday and pitching did the rest as Stu Flesland III and Case Matter led the Huskies to a 2-0 win and a series sweep of San Jose State at Excite Park.
Flesland was electric on the mound, flummoxing the Spartans throughout his six scoreless innings, striking out 10 and surrendering a meager two hits. Matter earned a three-inning save, striking out a pair.
After leaving two on in the first inning, the Huskies jumped on SJSU starter Aaron Eden in the second. Michael Snyder drew a leadoff walk, moving to third on Christian Dicochea's single up the middle. Both runners came in to score as Cole Miller lifted a sacrifice fly to right and Cam Clayton singled through the left side.
The Dawgs were not able to add onto that lead but with Flesland and Matt dealing on the hill, it didn't matter. The duo faced just five batters over ther minimum in the game to seal the series sweep.
With five road wins in tow, Washington will finally make its home debut for the 2023 season, hosting Northern Colorado in a four-game series at Husky Ballpark March 3-5. All four games will be streamed on Washington Live Stream 2.
