February 17, 2023 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Fresh off of Wednesday's overtime win over Oregon, Washington (14-13, 6-10 Pac-12) gets set to host Oregon State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Huskies will don their Black Excellence jerseys for Saturday's contest, marking the second year in a row they have worn themed jerseys during Black History Month.
Former Pac-12 Player of the Year and current Minnesota Timberwolf Jaylen Nowell returns to Montlake for a pregame recognition.
J.B. Long and Don MacLean have the call on Pack-12 Networks. Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton call the action on the Husky Sports Network, and locally on Sports Radio KJR-AM 950.
The Matchup
Washington and Oregon State are set to battle for the 310th time in history. The Huskies-Beavers series is the third-most played series in college basketball history behind Oregon-Oregon State and UW-Oregon. The Beavers took the 309th meeting between the teams back in December. The Huskies erased an 18-point deficit but fell in the closing seconds of a 66-65 defeat in Corvallis. It was just their second loss in the last seven games of the series. 110 of UW's 165 wins over the Beavers have come in Seattle.
Milestones:
Head Coach Mike Hopkins is one win away from his 100th career victory at Washington. Jamal Bey passed Darnell Gant for most games played in a Husky uniform when he checked into his 141st game against Arizona. Keion Brooks Jr. scored his 1,000th career point with a first-half three against ASU. Noah Williams eclipsed the 1,000-point mark at USC.
Last Time Out
Jamal Bey scored a layup with 28 seconds left in overtime and Washington beat Oregon 72-71 on Wednesday night. Menifield became just the fifth Husky on record and first since Markelle Fultz to have 27 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds in a game. He has shot greater than 45% in 7 of the last 10 games. Braxton Meah became the first Husky to go perfect from the field, perfect from the free throw line, score in double figures and record at least 4 blocks since Matisse Thybulle in 2019. Game recap
League Leaders:
Washington leads the Pac-12 and ranks ninth in the NCAA in blocks per game (5.3). Several Huskies lead the league in offensive statistics. Braxton Meah is first in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage; Cole Bajema leads the league in free throw percentage and Keion Brooks Jr. ranks second in scoring.
Signing Day
Four-star recruit Wesley Yates III (Beaumont, Texas/Beaumont United) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 16, announcing his commitment to Washington. Yates is the 37th-ranked prospect on ESPN's Top-100. The signing continues the momentum built from last year's class, which includes the No. 1 rated player in the state of Washington, Tyler Linhardt (Seattle, Wash./King's HS) and guard Keyon Menifield Jr. (Mount Morris, Mich./Phoenix [Ariz.] Prep).
Up Next
The Huskies head to the Bay Area for a Thursday evening clash with California which will be followed by a Sunday afternoon game at Stanford.
