February 16, 2023 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE (AP) - Freshman Keyon Menifield had a career-high 27 points, Jamal Bey scored a layup with 28 seconds left in overtime and Washington (14-13, 6-10 Pac-12) beat Oregon 72-71 on Wednesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Koren Johnson blocked Will Richardson's layup attempt in the closing seconds to seal it for the Huskies in their first and only game against the Ducks this season.
"I can't say enough about the fans," said Head Coach Mike Hopkins following the win. "I felt the hair on my arms go up in some of those moments. I'm proud of our guys and how they stayed in the game and fought for a win."
Menifield scored 18 points in the second half and finished 11 of 15 from the floor. He is the only freshman in the country this season to score 27 points on better than 70 percent shooting (min. 10 attempts) while adding seven assists. He became the fiirst Husky since Markelle Fultz to have 27 points, seven assists and five rebounds in a game.

Washington trailed for most of the second half but used a 10-4 surge, capped by a Menifield three-pointer, to take a 62-61 lead with 2:00 to play. Oregon regained the lead but Menifield answered with his second 3 for a 64-62 advantage before the Ducks forced overtime.
Bey, Brooks, Menifield and Koren Johnson all scored in the extra period of a game that saw 24 lead changes.
UW shot 47 percent in the game. The Huskies are now 4-0 in overtime games this season, their most overtime wins in single-season team history.
