Washington Heads to Los Angeles for Thursday Tilt with No. 9 UCLA
February 01, 2023 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – As the calendar flips to February the Washington Huskies (13-10, 5-7 Pac-12) travel to Los Angeles for a pair of league games to kick off the month. Four of UW's five conference wins have come in the last six games.
(9) UCLA is next on the schedule. Tip time is set for 6:00 p.m. with Alex Faust and Casey Jacobsen calling the game on FS1 while Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton will call the action on the Husky Sports Network, and locally on Sports Radio KJR-AM 950.
The Matchup
The Huskies and Bruins meet for 150th time in history on Thursday night. UCLA has won the last seven matchups and 15 of the last 18. Washington's last win at Pauley Pavilion came in January of 2016 which was just the second road win against the Bruins in ten years. UCLA held UW to a season-low 49 points in last month's matchup, a 74-49 final.
Last Time Out
Keion Brooks Jr. and Keyon Menifield each scored over 20 points but No. 6 Arizona used a big second-half run to pull away for a 95-72 win over Washington on Saturday. It was the fifth-straight game Brooks led the team in scoring. The Huskies hit eight threes, marking the eighth consecutive game they made 7+ threes - their longest single-season streak since 2019. The team has never had one such stretch of more than eight games. Game recap
Milestones
Jamal Bey passed Darnell Gant for most games played in a Husky uniform when he checked into his 141st game last Saturday. Keion Brooks Jr. scored his 1,000th career point with a first-half three against ASU. Noah Williams needs two points to reach that mark.
Signing Day
Four-star recruit Wesley Yates III (Beaumont, Texas/Beaumont United) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 16, announcing his commitment to Washington. Yates is the 37th-ranked prospect on ESPN's Top-100. The signing continues the momentum built from last year's class, which includes the No. 1 rated player in the state of Washington, Tyler Linhardt (Seattle, Wash./King's HS) and guard Keyon Menifield Jr. (Mount Morris, Mich./Phoenix [Ariz.] Prep).
Up Next
USC is the next stop on the road trip. The game is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday on FS1.
