Huskies Top Wildcats 4-3 In Wild West Shootout
October 08, 2023 | Women's Soccer
While the Huskies (6-5-2, 1-4-0 Pac-12) played largely on the front foot throughout the matchup, Arizona (4-6-3, 1-4-0 Pac-12) continually had an answer, tying the score twice and taking a brief second half lead.
Despite conceding three goals, Olivia Juarez was strong in goal, making four saves on a blisteringly warm afternoon under the Arizona sun.
Right from the kickoff, the Huskies jumped on the offensive and it paid early dividends. Loudd gave the Dawgs the advantage less than eight minutes in, meeting Ioanna Papatheodorou's free kick service to head the Huskies into the lead.

The Wildcats answered in the 16th minute, getting behind the backline as Jordan Hall slotted home her shot to tie the match up at a goal apiece.
Kelsey Branson punched back almost immediately, dicing up the Arizona defense with a dazzling series of cuts and finishing with her left.

The Huskies looked poised to hold the lead into the halftime break. However, just over a minute before the intermission, Kolo Sulifau was taken down in the box on an attempted clearance, leaving Cameron Valladares free to equalize at 2-2.
Just over a minute after the restart, tough luck hit the Huskies on an own goal, giving the home side their first lead of the match.
However, the Huskies remained resilient and answered in kind in the 57th minute as Hailey Still's bullet header off of Tatum Thomason's corner delivery made it 3-3 with the Huskies on the attack.

The continued pressure paid off in the 64th minute to put the Huskies up for good. Spotting Loudd's run in behind the back line, Jace Holmes lofted a ball perfectly over the top to pick out the rookie and Loudd capitalized, bulging the net in the near corner to push UW back ahead 4-3.

Once again behind, the Wildcats pushed forward attempting to overcome again but the Huskies remained resolute, closing out the final 26 minutes and change to pick up their first Pac-12 win of the season.
