SEATTLE -- The Dawgs take a three-match win streak back on the road, where they will reach the halfway point of Pac-12 play this weekend in Los Angeles. Washington (13-6, 4-4 Pac-12) starts in Westwood against UCLA this Friday, Oct. 20, in a 7 p.m. start. Then on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. the Huskies take on USC at the Galen Center. Friday's match will be televised on Pac-12 Networks Washington, while Sunday will be live streamed only.
The Huskies are trying to continue their upward trajectory through the conference standings, where they currently sit alone in sixth-place. Washington has defeated Cal, Colorado, and Utah in its past three, being led by different players in each match. The committee approach has worked in spite of the Huskies being without one of their top attackers, May Pertofsky, for three of the past four matches. Pertofsky, Madi Endsley, and Audra Wilmes have all led the Huskies in kills in five matches apiece, and Kierstyn Barton has led the team in four matches. Barton is coming off a second-straight Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor.
A few more trends have cropped up as Pac-12 play hits the halfway point. The Huskies are 8-0 when they hit above .250, and 11-0 when they out-hit their opponents. They are also 9-0 when earning more digs than their opponents.
UCLA is coming off a split on the road in the Bay last week, getting a sweep at Cal then dropping a close four-setter at Stanford. The Bruins are 10-8 and 2-6 in conference, having earned big nonconference wins over Pepperdine and Hawaii, as well as getting the same wins as the Huskies in Long Beach over Indiana and Long Beach State. Iman Ndiaye leads the Bruins with 2.96 kills per set. Anna Dodson is one of the top scoring middles, averaging 2.21 kills/set hitting .378 for the year with 1.21 blocks per set. UCLA is third in Pac-12 play with 2.71 blocks per set as a team.
USC sits a game ahead of the Huskies at 5-3 in Pac-12 play, having dropped both matches in the Bay last week. The Trojans are 11-7, with a signature nonconference win at Purdue. In league matches, USC is third with a .265 attack percentage. Skylar Fields is once again the league's leading attacker, averaging 4.97 kills per set and hitting .289. Setter Mia Tuaniga is fifth with 9.85 assists per set and Gala Trubint is eighth in the league with 3.44 digs per set. Lindsey Miller is hitting .344 with 1.65 kills per set and a team-best 0.97 blocks/set.
