Dawgs Can’t Get Over Hump In Epic Third Set
October 20, 2023 | Volleyball
LOS ANGELES – Turning the page twice after a rough first two sets on the road at UCLA, the Husky volleyball team dug deep to try and mount a comeback, but the Bruins pulled out an epic 38-36 third set to defeat the Dawgs in "three-plus" sets. Madi Endsley had a huge match to lead UW with 19 kills, hitting .333, but Washington (13-7, 4-5 Pac-12) saw its three-match win streak snapped.
The final line was 25-18, 25-16, 38-36 for the Bruins. It was the longest set for the Huskies this year and longest since they tied the NCAA record with a 46-44 set win against Washington State on Sept. 26, 2021. The Dawgs had nine set point chances but most were saved by UCLA on first-ball sideouts. UCLA won it on its fifth match point chance.
The Dawgs hit .210 but UCLA had one of its best matches hitting .364. The teams had six aces apiece but the Dawgs hurt themselves with 17 service errors. UCLA also had an edge in digs (49-38) and blocks (4.0-2.0).
Endsley's 19 kills led all players. Audra Wilmes had a dozen kills and hit .286 with three aces, which all came in a row in the third set as UW was looking to rally. Molly Wilson had 36 assists and Grace Zilbert had a dozen digs.
UP NEXT: UW will look to grab an L.A. split on Sunday when it faces the Trojans in the Galen Center at 2 p.m. Pacific. The match will be live stream only.
