January 13, 2023 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington (10-8, 2-5) hosts Cal on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena following a 86-69 win over Stanford. Roxy Bernstein and Eldridge Recasner have the call on Pac-12 Networks while Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton will call the action on the Husky Sports Network, and locally on Sports Radio KJR-AM 950.
UW coaches will be wearing pins on Saturday to raise awareness for the #Fight4Literacy campaign.
The Matchup
This is the 173rd matchup between the Huskies and Golden Bears. Washington has won three straight and seven of the last ten. UW has not lost at home to Cal since 2016. The Huskies beat the Bears by nine at Hec Ed last year before a 21-point road victory in February.
Last Time Out
Braxton Meah threw down eight dunks en route to 21 points to help Washington power past Stanford, 86-69 to snap a five-game losing skid Thursday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. Five Huskies scored in double figures and Washington shot 55.9% from the field for the game (33 of 59), including 9 of 23 from distance. Keion Brooks Jr. finished with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Koren Johnson added a career-high 15 points, three rebounds and four assists off the bench. Game recap
Signing Day
Four-star recruit Wesley Yates III (Beaumont, Texas/Beaumont United) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 16, announcing his commitment to Washington. Yates is the 37th-ranked prospect on ESPN's Top-100. The signing continues the momentum built from last year's class, which includes the No. 1 rated player in the state of Washington, Tyler Linhardt (Seattle, Wash./King's HS) and guard Keyon Menifield Jr. (Mount Morris, Mich./Phoenix [Ariz.] Prep).
Up Next
The Huskies hit the road again next week with a trip to Colorado booked for Thursday at 6 p.m. PT on ESPNU. A matchup at Utah follows next weekend.
