Huskies Blow Out Arizona State In Wire-To-Wire Victory
February 10, 2022 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE -- The Washington men's basketball team dominated Arizona State on Thursday night, winning its fifth straight home game by a final score 87-64 -- marking the program's biggest win over the Sun Devils since 2010.
It was a balanced team effort that saw four Huskies in double-figures and 14 total players take the floor.
Terrell Brown Jr. got the scoring started with a jumper on the first possession of the game.
That would set the tone for the rest of the half, as the Huskies got out to a 21-9 lead after nine minutes of play.
The UW defense made things incredibly difficult on the Sun Devils, who opened the game just 3-18 from the field and didn't pick up an assist until under the 11-minute mark.
Brown Jr. would extend his streak of double-digit scoring in all 22 games this season with an and-1 with 7:15 remaining in the half.
Washington would lead by as many 20 points in the first half at 39-19 and went into the locker room with a 42-32 lead thanks to a Nate Roberts dunk right before the horn.
The Huskies would continue to drain shots in the second half, shooting 50% from three in the final 20 minutes of action.
PJ Fuller was at the heart of it all, as he did not miss a shot from the field in the half en route to 16 total points (13 in the second half).
Riley Sorn helped UW keep the Sun Devils at a distance providing great energy as well as 6 points on 3-3 shooting, 5 rebounds and a blocked shot off the bench.
As a team, Washington shot 53.8% from the field to go with 19 rebounds in the second half to pull away and win comfortably by a score of 87-64.
Terrell Brown Jr. finished with 19 points and eight assists -- just one shy of his UW high. Emmitt Matthews Jr. tied a career high with four made threes on his way to 15 total points, while Cole Bajema rounded out the Huskies in double figures with 12 points and a career-high four steals.
Washington is back in action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against No. 4 Arizona in the team's Blackout Game. All fans are asked to WEAR BLACK to the game. Additionally, fans are encouraged to bring gently worn shoes and clothing items to Saturday's game as part of the adidas "Choose to Give Back" program.
