Huskies Drop Contest To No. 4 Arizona
February 12, 2022 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE -- Looking to win its sixth straight hom game on Sunday afternoon, the Washington men's basketball team started strong but ultimately came up short against No. 4 Arizona.Â
Coming out of the gates strong was Emmitt Matthews Jr., who hit a three and threw down a dunk to get the Huskies out to a quick 7-5 advantage.Â
Â
Â
From that point on, Terrell Brown Jr. took the game over. The Pac-12's leading scorer lived up to the billing, as he exploded for 16 early points, getting UW out to a 25-11 lead and forcing an Arizona timeout.Â
Â
In the first half alone, Brown Jr. had 24 points, good for his 14th 20-point effort of the season.Â
Although the Huskies held a lead for the majority of the first half, the Wildcats would go on a run to end the first half and take a 45-36 lead into the locker room.Â
Arizona would show why it is a top-five team in the second half, shooting 69% from the field and dishing out 14 points to pull away and ultimately win by a final score of 92-68.Â
For Washington, Nate Roberts (10) and Emmitt Matthews Jr. (10) joined Brown Jr. in double figures.Â
The Huskies are back in action next weekend against the Los Angeles schools, first visiting No. 21 USC on Thursday night. Â
