Sekany's PK Winner Sends Huskies To Sweet Sixteen
April 30, 2021 | Women's Soccer
MATTHEWS, N.C. – The Washington Huskies booked their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen, beating the #15 Saint Louis Billikens in penalty kicks to advance to the third round for the first time since 2014. A dramatic game saw Olivia Sekany make a huge punch save during PKs, then come up and slot home the gamewinner herself.
The Huskies are headed to the Sweet Sixteen for the fifth time in program history with today's win. This was the third time in Husky history Washington has gone to penalty kicks to decide a postseason match and the first time since 2010, when the Huskies beat Portland to advance.
Washington made its first three penalty kicks before missing. Sekany came out of her net to take the fifth PK with the game on the line, with the Huskies needing a make to win it. Sekany fooled her keeper counterpart and ripped a low shot toward the right post to send the Huskies to the next round.
The Huskies had the bulk of the offensive pressure all game long, outshooting Saint Louis 15-9 overall and 7-3 on shots on goal. In overtime, Washington had four shots, all dangerous, and four corners, more than doubling their corner-kick total from regulation.
