Huskies Drop Game One of Series to California

SEATTLE -- The Washington Huskies (17-19, 3-10) dropped their series opener to the California Golden Bears (20-19, 7-9) on Friday night, falling by a score of 9-0.
California got on the board early, posting two runs in the top of the first. The Golden Bears used a pair of bunt singles to get runners on base, followed by a sac fly and two-out single to score them both. Another sac fly in the second inning gave them a 3-0 lead. With two outs in the fourth, their eight and nine hitters doubled and homered to make it a 5-0 game.
A solo home run in the sixth made it 6-0 before four straight hits, including three doubles, to start the seventh made it 9-0. That would wrap up the scoring between both teams in the game.
While the Huskies had no problem getting runners on base, they couldn't push any across. They had men on base in each of the first four innings, but left two runners stranded in scoring position to end the second and would leave eight runners on base in total.
Colton Charnholm provided a bright spot for UW, as he tossed 3.0 innings out of the bullpen on just one hit to help save the rest of the bullpen for the final two games of the series.
Game two between the Huskies and Golden Bears is set for Saturday afternoon, with first pitch at 2:00 p.m.. Tyson Guerrero will start for UW against California's Sean Sullivan.
