May 01, 2021 | Baseball
SEATTLE -- The Washington Huskies (17-20, 3-11) dropped game two of their series to the California Golden Bears (21-19, 8-9) by a score of 5-1. With the victory, the Golden Bears clinched the series win.
Of the 5 runs that California scored, just 2 of them were earned, as the Huskies committed three errors to make things difficult on the pitching staff. Tyson Guerrero, who started for UW, battled all afternoon and threw a career-high 107 pitches. In 5.2 innings of work, he allowed 3 runs (2 ER) on five hits and a walk, while striking out four
In the second inning, the Golden Bears' leadoff hitter reached on an error before scoring on a double for the first unearned run of the day. A solo home run in the third made it a 2-0 lead.
UW got on the board in the fourth, as a Cole Miller infield single with two outs preceded a Michael Snyder double to center field, the first extra-base hit of his career.
California has a quick answer with a solo home run in the fifth, before adding two unearned runs in the seventh thanks to a pair of fielding errors.
Out of the bullpen, Stu Flesland III threw an inning of relief, giving up 2 runs, both of which were unearned. Gabe Smith tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.
The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch from Husky Ballpark.
