UW Opens Pac-12 Play With Home Series Against USC

USC at a Glance: The Trojans make the trip up to Seattle after a three-game sweep at home over Nevada last weekend. They combined for four home runs in their final game against the Wolfpack, a 7-2 victory. USC is 6-6 on the season and started off 2021 by winning two straight against Loyola Marymount. The Trojans then lost 6 of 7 before sweeping Nevada.Β
Man in Charge: Jason Gill leads USC in his second year as the head coach. It will be his first time coaching against Washington and his first Pac-12 conference game with the Trojans.Β USC and UW were set to play one another last seasonΒ
Unique History: UW was scheduled to play USC in last season's Pac-12 opening series as well. The Huskies had boarded their bus to make the trip to California, but the series -- and season -- would ultimately get canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic before the teams could play a game.Β
By the Numbers: On offense, the Trojans are led by Tyresse Turner, who slashes .317/.488/.420 and is nine-for-nine stealing bases. Jamal O'Guinn, Nate Clow and Clay Owens are tied for the team lead with three home runs, while O'Guinn leads USC with 11 RBI. On the mound, Clow has also thrown 3.2 scoreless innings and has two saves. Isaac Esqueda has been the most successful Trojan starter, with a 2.28 ERA in a team-high 23.2 innings pitched.
