SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The No. 3 Washington men's soccer team took care of business in southern California this weekend, capping off an undefeated weekend with a 1-0 win over San Diego State.

The Huskies wasted no time making their mark, as they put the ball in the back of the net before fans could settle into their seats in San Diego. After taking a pass from Charlie Ostrem, Dylan Teves slide a perfectly-weighted pass through to Nick Scardina, who tapped it home for the opening goal.

With an early lead in hand, Washington continue to control the match for the remainder of the first half. The visitors posted nine shots to SDSU's one and had three attempts on target.

The second half saw the pace of the match slow down significantly. Two of the better defenses in the conference settled in and made things difficult. Perhaps the best chance for UW to double its lead came in the 68th minute, when Lucas Meek put in a cross to an open Dylan Teves. However, Teves was unable to put enough power on his header and the shot proved to be no issue for the Aztec goalkeeper.

SDSU was able to earn a corner kick late in the match and put the ball in the back of the net in the 82nd minute. The goal was waived off for offsides and the Huskies kept a 1-0 lead.

The final minutes of the match saw UW maintain possession and players such as Ilijah Paul and Khai Brisco put forth strong efforts to keep the ball. Paul was a constant presence along the left side, helping to work the ball towards the Aztec goal and not give up possession.

Brisco once again put his tremendous speed and athleticism on display. On two separate plays less than two minutes apart, SDSU players were shown yellow cards for hard fouls on Brisco, who was too much for them to contain.

As the final seconds ticked off, Washington secured its 14th win of the season and moved itself just three points behind first place Oregon State in the Pac-12.

The two teams will square off on Thursday in Corvallis, with the Huskies having a chance to join the Beavers at the top of the Pac-12 standings in the season finale for both sides.
