Washington Opens Weekend With Loss To Utah Valley

SEATTLE – The University of Washington baseball team (7-5) dropped its series opener, 7-0, Friday night to visiting Utah Valley University at Husky Ballpark.
Utah Valley put up a four spot in the third and added a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth. The Huskies managed seven hits off the UVU pitching staff, but couldn't string any together to push a run across.
UW loaded the based with one out in the bottom of the seventh thanks to three-straight singles, but UVU starter Jesse Schmit was able to escape the jam with no Husky runs.
David Rhodes (1-2) got the start on the hill and tossed the first 5.0 innings. He struck out four, while allowing four runs. Jonathan Schiffer would work the next 2.2 innings, surrendering just a pair of hits before Alex Giroux closed things out on the mound.
The Dawgs got base knocks from: Braiden Ward, Noah Hsue, Christian Dicochea, Will Simpson, Ramon Bramasco, Tommy Williams and Michael Petrie.
The Huskies and Wolverines will meet in a doubleheader Saturday at Husky Ballpark. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. with game two to follow at 6:05 p.m.
