Huskies Return Home For Two Matches This Weekend
February 07, 2020 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE --- The Washington men's tennis team returns home this weekend, hosting a pair of non-conference matches at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Huskies (5-2) host Pepperdine (4-0) on Saturday at 2:00 pm before closing out the weekend against Eastern Washington (1-2) at Noon on Sunday. Both matches offer fans free admission and free pizza after the completion of the doubles competition.
Washington played its first road game of the season last week, suffering a tough 4-3 loss at San Diego. The loss snapped a three-match winning-streak for the Huskies. Jack Davis--fresh off being named the Pac-12 Player of the Week two weeks ago and moving up to No. 45 in the ITA National Rankings--continued his winning ways, fighting back from a first-set loss to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. That victory extended his singles winning-streak to four matches and gives him an 11-2 record on the season and a 6-1 record in duals.
Adam Torocsik also won vs San Diego and is now 9-1 on the year including a 3-0 mark in duals. He has won his last eight singles matches dating back to last season. Brandon Wong won Washington's other singles match and improves to 5-1 in dual matches.
Pepperdine will provide the Huskies with another tough home test as the Waves enter with a perfect 4-0 record. The match will be the first road match of the season for Pepperdine and the first of seven consecutive road duals for the Waves. Both Pepperdine and Washington have 4-3 wins over UCSB on their schedules this year and look pretty evenly-matched on paper. The match at No, 1 should be a good one with UW's No. 45 Jack Davis slated to face No. 47 Corrado Summarin.
Eastern Washington is off to a tough start to the season at 1-2, recording its first win of the season on Saturday against Whitworth.
