
Huskies Win 8-1 Behind Emanuels’ Dominant Pitching Performance

FRESNO, Calif. – Stevie Emanuels struck out a career high 13 batters and Washington's offense scored a season high eight runs Friday night as the Huskies (3-2) ran away from Fresno State (2-2) for an 8-1 victory in game one of their three-game series at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The victory marked the 1,999th in UW program history and Emanuels made the it a memorable one. The junior right-hander struck out the first six Fresno State hitters he faced and 12 of the first 15 Bulldog hitters he faced Fittingly, he ended his career high six innings pitched with his 13th strikeout.
Emanuels (1-1) threw 93 pitches, walking just one batter and giving up four hits, including a pair that led to Fresno State's lone run in the fourth inning.
Dylan Lamb struck out two over two innings of relief and David Rhodes recorded a strikeout in the ninth as the UW trio of hurlers combined for 16 K's on the night.
With Emanuels rolling on the bump, UW's offense provided plenty of early run support. The Huskies batted around in the second inning against FSU starter Jaime Arias (1-1) and scored four runs.
After Will Simpson, Christian Jones and Kaiser Weiss all reached on singles, third baseman Tommy Williams hit into a fielder's choice to pick up a RBI and another run scored when shortstop Jeff Jamison threw the ball into the Bulldogs' dugout. It was one of three costly errors for Fresno State on the night.
UW tacked on two more runs in the inning on a Ramon Bramasco groundout and Braiden Ward fielder's choice groundout.
The Dawgs kept the pedal to the metal in the third scoring two more runs to increase their lead to 6-0. Simpson and Jones started the inning with hits and were drove in by RBI singles by Williams and Bramasco.
Ward's speed accounted for the Huskies' final two run. In the sixth and eighth innings, he reached on singles and stole second both time –numbers five and six in as many attempts on the season. He scored in the sixth on an error and touched home in the eighth on a wild pitch. The junior ended the evening 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a RBI.
Ward was one of four Huskies that had two hits on the night – Noah Hsue, Simpson, and Jones the others. UW outhit Fresno State 12-5.
The Huskies have now won three-straight games after dropping their first two of the season.
UW and Fresno State continue the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Jack Enger will be making his first start of the year and will take on Bulldogs' righty Oscar Carvajal.
