Washington Loses 5-0 at Hawaii
February 18, 2020 | Men's Tennis
HONOLULU, Hawaii --- Washington dropped a tough match at Hawaii on Tuesday, losing 5-0 in the first match of a three-match road trip.
While the matches were close throughout, the Huskies (6-4) were unable to pull out a victory before rain ended the match with two to go.
"The loss is tough for me to take," said Head Coach Matt Anger. "We didn't play our game the way we have trained to play. We can and need to be better."
The Rainbow Warriors (5-4) picked up the doubles point with a pair of tight wins. Washington picked up the first victory of the day at No. 3 as Ewen Lumsden and Brandon Wong cruised to a 6-3 victory. However, Hawaii would tie it up with a 6-4 win at No. 2 before clinching the point at No. 1 with a 6-4 win.
In singles, things just didn't seem to go the Huskies way at all. Hawaii won quickly at No. 4 and No. 3, then clinched the match on court one as Jack Davis suffered a tough, three-set loss. Hawaii added another victory at No. 6 with the final two matches going unfinished due to rain with the Washington players winning in both.
The Huskies remain on the road this week, traveling to face Sacramento State on Saturday, then UC Davis on Sunday. Both matches are slated for a Noon start.
