Washington Wins 1-0 In First Road Game
September 05, 2019 | Women's Soccer
PORTLAND, Ore. – In heavy heat, the Washington Huskies took down the Denver Pioneers 1-0, earning Washington's third shutout of the year in just five games. The only goal of the game came on an own goal after Kennedy Smith flipped a ball off a defender while facing away from goal. Washington improves to 2-1-2 with the win, handing Denver its first loss of 2019.
Dani Hansen earned her third shutout of the season. Hansen and the Husky defense were on point all game long, allowing only six total shots and none on goal. Isabella Castro had three shots for Washington, the most on the team.
Washington was dominant on the ball in the first half, not allowing a shot until the 27th minute and only allowing two through 45. A series of offside calls meant the Husky offense started a bit slowly, but came on in a big way, ending the half with a goal to take the lead.
In the second half, the Huskies took to the defensive side of things. Denver did not have a shot for the last ten minutes of the game, something that mirrored the end of the first half, when Washington held Denver without a shot for the final 15.
