SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies held the lead for much of the game but dropped a 3-2 match to the #2 North Carolina Tar Heels. Summer Yates and Mary Johnston each scored for the Huskies, who entered the half with a 2-1 lead and did not trail until the 71^st minute.

The Huskies and Tar Heels fought to a standstill for much of the game, with North Carolina just outpacing the Huskies in shots, 11-9. Dani Hansen made 4 saves in goal for Washington.

"We played just as well or better than North Carolina for much of the match," said Lesle Gallimore. "We were up because we were intensely focused and the game ended up swinging the other way because we lacked focus in focused areas. A team like North Carolina is always going to punish you for that."

From the get go, Washington looked dangerous, with Jessika Cowart feeding a long ball to Ruby Hellstrom in the 14^th minute that was just knocked away by the North Carolina keeper. Isabella Castro also had several dangerous chances before Yate put the Dawgs on the board.

After North Carolina took the lead for the first time, Washington switched to three defenders, aggressively pushing for the tying goal. Despite three more shots in the final minutes of the game, the Huskies could not quite get the tying goal, taking their first loss of the year.

		SCORING
21:39 \| With a free kick at the top of the box, Yates curled a low ball toward the far post, just out of reach of the diving keeper and into the net. 36:29 \| UNC tied the game up, scoring on a header off a rebound after a great diving save by Hansen. 43:32 \| Johnston's first goal as a Husky came off a set piece. Pang's deep free kick was punched out just before going in the top corner. Mireya Grey found it and centered to Johnston, who scored. 57:25 \| The Tar Heels answered again, this time on a header off a free kick to make it 2-2. 70:24 \| North Carolina took its first lead on a high curving shot that found the top corner.

		NOTES
Hansen had her career-long scoreless streak end at 277 minutes. It was the longest scoreless streak to start a Husky keeper's career since Kelsey Rasmussen's 406-minute streak in 2003. Washington trailed for the first time all season, ending a streak of 290 minutes with either the lead or a tie. In 11 career non-conference games, Yates has four goals and two assists.
