August 26, 2019 | Men's Soccer
SPOKANE --- Washington closed out the exhibition schedule on Monday night, playing to a 1-1 tie at Gonzaga.
The Huskies got their lone goal thanks to a Blake Bodily penalty kick in the 77th minute, placing the spot kick just below the cross bar to knot the score late. It was the third goal of the preseason for Bodily, who was on the Hermann Trophy watch list for the award given to the country's top college soccer player.
After a scoreless first half, Gonzaga struck first with a goal in the 48th minute, taking advantage of a free kick from 22 yards out to get the first goal.
Washington held a 12-4 shot advantage in the game, but couldn't find the back of the net in the run of play. The Huskies' penalty kick goal gives them three from the spot in two preseason games and account for half of their total exhibition goals.
Washington opens the regular season on Friday, hosting No. 18 Denver at 7:30 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium.
