AUSTIN, Texas – A season of first wrapped up with a couple more for redshirt freshman Elijah Mason. The Arizona native became a First Team All-American, and the first Husky to score in the discus at the NCAA Championships since 1998. Mason was seventh today as the championships finished up the third of four days of competition, with all men's events concluding.
Mason (Casa Grande, Ariz.) is the fourth Husky to reach the NCAA podium this week at Mike A. Myers Stadium, and the second thrower, joining Denham Patricelli who was eighth in the javelin on Wednesday. The two gave the men three points total in the final standings to tie for 50th overall.
His first throw was his best. Mason threw 191-feet, 3-inches on his first attempt, the second-farthest throw of his young career, and that would hold up for seventh place after all six rounds were finished. Mason's redshirt freshman season also included a Pac-12 title, the first by a Husky in the event since 1976, and a PR of 199-0 that ranks seventh in school history.
Sophomore Jonah Wilson picked up All-America honorable mention in the discus as well, as he finished 20th today with a best of 178-10. Washington was the only school with two men in the top-20 in the discus. It was Wilson's second top-20 finish in three days, as he was 16th in the shot put on Wednesday.
Junior Mick Stanovsek earned his first individual top-10 finish at an NCAA meet today, as he finished 10th overall in the 12-man 1,500-meters final, running a time of 3:45.64. That equals a Second Team All-America honor for the first year Husky, who is now a seven-time All-American.
The women's heptathlon got underway early this afternoon, with sophomore Hannah Rusnak representing the Dawgs as the first Husky in that event at NCAAs since 2004. Rusnak, the Pac-12 Champion, opened her day with three consecutive career-bests to finish with a day one score of 3,503, the first time she's broken 3,500 points on the first day. Rusnak sits in eighth place out of the 24-woman field, but just four points out of sixth.

The Lynden, Wash. native opened up with a PR in the 100-meter hurdles as she ran a 13.51 second time with a +2.0 tailwind just at the legal limit. That time also moved her up another spot on the UW hurdles top-10, up to No. 3.
Going to the high jump, Rusnak made the highest bar of her life, getting over 5-feet, 6.50-inches, and she came extremely close to making 5-7 3/4 as well.
Her first attempt in the shot put was another PR by a foot, as she threw 41-10 to finish fifth overall in that event. After a three hour break, the athletes came back for the 200-meters, where Rusnak clocked a time of 24.85 for her only non-career-best of the first day.
Saturday's final day will be a two-woman show with Rusnak and Darhian Mills in the final of the 400m hurdles. They will look to add to the 12 points the women scored yesterday behind third-place finishes from Olivia Gruver and Izzi Batt-Doyle.
