Upset Bid Falls Short As San Diego Defeats Washington 4-2

SEATTLE --- The Washington men's tennis team lost 4-2 to No. 27 San Diego on Thursday night at Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Dawgs took an early 2-0 lead but couldn't hold on for the victory. With the loss, UW is now 3-8 on the year.
UW took the doubles point and the lead after winning two out of three doubles matches.
The 34th ranked doubles pair of senior Piers Foley and sophomore Jack Davis defeated the 59th ranked tandem of Joel Gamerov and August Holmgren 6-3. Davis and Foley are now 5-4 in dual doubles matches on the season.
The freshman doubles pair of Ewen Lumsden and Adam Torocsik lost 3-6 to Guus Koevermans and David Norfeldt as the doubles point would come to Court 2.
Senior Kawika Lam and senior Enzo Sommer finished off their opponents 6-3 to give the Dawgs a 1-0 lead.
Lumsden gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead as he breezed through his match on Court 5, defeating David Norfeldt 6-1, 6-1. Lumsden is now 4-1 on the season playing in the fifth spot in the lineup.
Shortly after, Torocsik dropped his match 4-6, 0-6 on Court 6 as the Toreros cut the Washington lead to 2-1.
USD tied up the match at two on Court 2 as 70th ranked Gui Osorio defeated Foley 6-4, 6-4. The loss snapped Foley's five match singles winning streak.
San Diego next took a 3-2 lead as Sommer lost 3-6, 6-7 on Court 1. The match was then clinched on Court 4 as freshman Ernesto Turegano lost 6-7, 3-6.
Davis' match on Court 3 was in a second set tiebreaker when the overall match was decided. Davis took the first set 6-3.
The Huskies will open up Pac-12 conference play on Saturday at Oregon at 2:00 p.m.
