TEMPE, Ariz. – The Washington women's golf team finished tied for third place at even par after the final round of play at the PING ASU Invitational on Sunday. UW shot an 8-under round of 280 at Papago Golf Course in the third round.
"We wanted to put it all together today and for the most part we did just that," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Very much a team effort from top to bottom. I'm most proud of how patient they remained on greens that were very difficult to read. Julianne, 6-under in her last 11 holes was nothing short of spectacular. Patience and discipline were absolute keys this week."
The 8-under par round was the second lowest of the season, one stroke behind the 9-under round on Oct. 20 at the Stanford Intercollegiate. The 8-under 280 final round was also the second lowest team round of this week's tournament.
Junior Alice Duan finished tied for 10th at 2-under par after carding an even par round of 72 on Sunday. Duan earned her second top-10 finish of the year and her third top-20.
Senior Wenyung Keh shot a bogey free 3-under par round of 69 to finish in a tie for 13th place at 1-under par. Keh's third round was her second bogey free round of the tournament, as she only recorded four holes worse than par in the event. Keh's top-20 finish was the sixth of the season in seven events.
Senior Julianne Alvarez finished in a tie for 24th place at 2-over par after shooting a 3-under round of 69. Alvarez rolled in four birdie putts and recorded an eagle on the ninth hole in her third round of play. Alvarez lead the field on par-3 scoring (-2) as well as par-5 scoring (-6).
Sophomore Rino Sasaki shot a 2-under round of 70 to earn a tie for 26th place at 3-over par. Sasaki shot a 2-under round of 70 in her final round at Papago Golf Course. Sasaki carded 11 birdies over her three rounds.
Freshman Martha Lewis posted a 3-over par round of 75 to finish tied for 62nd place.
USC won the tournament at 5-under par, one stroke ahead of second place Arizona State. Bethany Wu, Stephanie Lau and Andrea Lee all tied for the individual title at 7-under par.
The Huskies will next be in action at the Silverado Showdown April 7-9 in Napa, Calif.
