Huskies In Ninth After First Round Of Silverado Showdown

NAPA, Calif. – The Washington women's golf team is in ninth place after the first round of play at the Silverado Showdown on Sunday. The Huskies shot a 12-over par round of 300 at the par-72, Silverado Resort and Spa.
"Everyone seemed to struggle today, we just couldn't get any momentum going at all," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We had a good practice session after our round and feel ready to go tomorrow."
Junior Karen Miyamoto is tied for 15th after carding a 1-over par round of 73. Miyamoto carded three birdies in her opening round. She was able to take advantage of the par-5's shooting 2-under.
Senior Julianne Alvarez posted a 2-over round of 74 on Sunday and is tied for 24th place. Alvarez was 2-under on the par-5's in her round, tied for second in the field.
Junior Alice Duan sits in a tie for 44th place as she shot a 4-over 76.
Sophomore Rino Sasaki shot a round of 77 and is tied for 58th place at 5-over par. Sasaki played her opening nine holes at 1-under, but struggled on the back nine.
Senior Sarah Rhee is tied for 66th place as she carded a 6-over 78 in her opening round of play.
San Jose State leads the tournament at 1-over par, while Stephanie Lau and Brooke Riley, both from Northwestern, lead the individuals at 2-under par. The average score from the field on Sunday was 75.97, nearly four strokes over par.
The Huskies will tee off second round play on April 8 at 8 a.m. playing alongside Oregon and Iowa State.
