SEATTLE – The Washington men's tennis team defeated Utah 4-2 on Friday night at Quillian Tennis Center. It was the first Pac-12 victory for the Dawgs on the year as UW improved to 6-11 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-12.Â
The Huskies opened up the match with a 1-0 lead, winning two of the three doubles matches and taking the doubles point.
The freshman duo of
Ewen Lumsden and
Adam Torocsik defeated Russell Benkaim and Joe Wooley 6-3 for the first doubles win. Lumsden and Torocsik improved their doubles record to 3-3 in dual matches.
Senior
Enzo Sommer and senior
Kawika Lam lost to Azat Hankuliyev and Dan Little 3-6 as the doubles point would be decided on Court 1.
The 41
st ranked pair of senior
Piers Foley and sophomore
Jack Davis beat David Micevski and Slava Shainyan 7-6. Foley and Davis are now 9-5 as partners in dual doubles matches.
The Utes tied up the match at one, when Torocsik fell to Woolley 4-6, 2-6.
Lumsden quickly gave the Dawgs the lead back as he took down Gavelin 6-3, 6-3. Lumsden is now 9-6 in dual singles matches on the year.
Davis made it a 3-1 Husky lead when he beat Shainyan 7-5, 6-4. Davis improved his singles dual record to 6-8 on the season.
The Utes brought the UW lead back to one when Benkaim defeated Turegano 7-5, 6-3.
Sommer clinched the victory for the Dawgs as he came back from a one set deficit to defeat 42
nd ranked Dan Little 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Foley's match on Court 2 went unfinished. He was leading 6-7, 6-2, 3-1 when the overall match was completed.
Washington will next be in action on Friday, April 5 at Arizona.
