Huskies Drop Match to No. 20 USC
April 17, 2026 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team was defeated in a conference match, 4-0, by Southern California this evening. With this result, Washington is now (8-16) on the season and (2–10) from Big Ten play. The Huskies will return to play for the final time this spring with a Senior Day matchup with #21 UCLA from the Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium at Noon on Sunday.
Notably absent for the first time this season, junior Soham Purohit, was inactive in tonight's contest with 20th-ranked Southern California. His absence was surely missed as from doubles, despite the strong start across the board, the Huskies would concede the point with all three matches being completed.
Replacing Soham at the No. 1, Stephane Kamendje made the jump to play alongside Brett Pearson for the first time this season. This change would provide the No. 2 and No. 3 to go back to an early season line up, with Rohan Belday pairing with Nikola Plavsic at the No. 2, and the freshmen duo of Hyeonseok Seo and Daniel Bien at the No. 3. This freshman pairing would go to win their match, 6-3, before the Trojans would proceed to take the point.
In Singles, Stephane Kamendje would take the reigns from the No. 1, along with everyone playing up from their regular positions in Soham's absence. The Trojans would capitalize on this lineup change, proceeding to win in strait sets in all matches for the needed three points to close out the match.
Of note Rohan Belday, Brett Pearson, and Daniel Bien would close out the day with unfinished matches. Notably Daniel Bien, made his first start since an injury multiple weeks back and would have the most competitive scoreline of the match, with an unfinished scoreline of 5-7, 3-3; while this match would be the first match in which Stephane has held the No. 1 in his career.
