Huskies Fall 4-0 at No. 29 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. --- It was a tough outing for Washington on Friday at Robson Tennis Center, as the Huskies ran into a dominant Arizona squad and lost 4-0
The Washington loss drops their overall record to 6-12, 1-2 in Pac-12 play. The win for Arizona improves their overall record to 15-4, including 1-3 in conference match-ups.
Washington got off to a rocky start in the doubles competition, dropping their first two matches as Arizona clinched the point. Ewen Lumsden and Adam Torocsik got the action underway by losing the #3 doubles match 6-1 against Jonas Maier and Stewart Block. Jack Davis and Piers Foley followed by coming up short against Igor Karpovets and Jonas Ziverts 6-3 at #1 doubles. Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer were winning 5-3 at #2 doubles playing across from Filip Malbasic and Alejandro Reguant when Arizona clinched the win.
After their defeat in doubles, the Huskies opened singles play with a loss from Foley in #2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, at the hands of Malbasic. Next to finish was the #6 singles match between Torocsik for Washington and Maier for Arizona. Torocsik was unable to earn the victory, losing 6-0, 6-1. In the last completed match of the day, Sommer was defeated in #1 singles by Ziverts in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (5), ending to close out the match. The contests in #3, #4, and #5 singles all went unfinished, as Arizona clinched the overall win with those matches still in progress. However, at Lumsden was up 7-5, 4-3 in his match at #5 when the match was called. At #3, Davis was headed to the third set when the match ended, having won the first set 6-4, but losing 6-2 in the second.Β
#32 Arizona State is next up on the schedule for the Huskies. They'll play that match on Sunday atΒ 12:00 pmΒ in Tempe.
