Nine Reasons To Attend Husky Baseball Against Oregon State
March 27, 2019 | Baseball
SEATTLE β Washington baseball welcomes Oregon State to Husky Ballpark for a three-game series this weekend beginning Friday, March 29. Below are nine reasons why you won't want to miss a minute of the action:
1. It's a College World Series rematch.
Washington and Oregon State were the Pac-12's lone representatives in last year's College World Series in Omaha, Neb. It marked the Huskies' first appearance in the CWS, and while the Beavers came out on top, the Diamond Dawgs established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in college baseball.
2. Washington is HOT in Pac-12 play.
The Huskies are off to a 5-1 start in league play this season, taking two of three from Oregon before sweeping USC this past weekend. Those two series wins, coupled with the five series victories to end 2018, mean the UW has taken its last seven Pac-12 series. No other conference team currently has a longer streak. In fact, the next longest active streak is TWO!
3. There will be fun for the whole family.
Each Saturday at Husky Ballpark is Signature Saturday, and fans are invited to stick around to get autographs from select Husky baseball players. On Sundays, kids can stick around after the game and run the bases on the field.
This Sunday is Little League Day with a superhero twist as kids 12 and under can receive one (1) general admission ticket and hot dog for just $7 using the promo code LITTLELEAGUE here. Additionally, the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a superhero slap bracelet while Super Dubs and Super Harry the Husky will be available for pregame photos on the concourse.
4. You can't beat the views at Husky Ballpark.
The views of Lake Washington and Mount Rainier from Husky Ballpark make it arguably the most picturesque stadium in college baseball. There's no better place to take your next Instagram photo.

5. The Huskies are perfect at home so far this season.
As good as the views are from Husky Ballpark, Washington has been perfect in six home games on Montlake this year. The Diamond Dawgs are averaging 6.5 runs per game at home, lighting up the scoreboard and keeping fans captivated.
6. You'll see a showdown between the Pac-12's top two catchers.
Oregon State's Adley Rutschman is the consensus top pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, but Washington's Nick Kahle has been playing like a big leaguer in 2019, too. Rutcschman's .429 average, 26 RBIs and .588 on-base percentage are impressive, but Kahle is keeping pace with a .415 average, 24 RBIs and .565 on-base percentage. Being able to watch these two catchers on the same field competing against each other this weekend should alone be worth the price of admission.
7. Washington's pitching has been lights out.
The UW pitching staff once again ranks among the best in the Pac-12. So far, they have an earned run average of 2.92. The weekend starters β David Rhodes (1.80 ERA), Jordan Jones (3.05) and Josh Burgmann (1.11) β have been especially impressive, each going at least 5 innings in their 17 combined starts and allowing two or fewer runs in 13 of those games.
8. The forecast looks great.
The weather in Seattle this time of year can be spotty, but things are looking good for this weekend. The highs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are all above 60 degrees, while Saturday looks to be particularly sunny without a cloud in the sky.
9. Braiden Ward is the Man of Steal.
If sophomore Braiden Ward gets on first base, chances are he won't be there long. As a freshman he led the Pac-12 with 19 steals. In just 20 games, Ward already is 17-for-19 in stolen base attempts and leads the conference again by a wide margin. He is a game-changer every time he steps on the bag. Not only does he captivate the pitcher and catcher's attention when he's on base, but fans will want to be in their seats when Ward gets aboard to see what he might do next.
