GM 1: Cerrillo Hits Walk-Off Sac Fly To Lift Dawgs, 3-2, By Bears
February 23, 2019 | Baseball
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Mason Cerrillo hit a walk-off, sacrifice fly to lift Washington to a 3-2 victory in seven innings of game one of a double-header Saturday at GCU Ballpark.
Ramon Bramasco, who singled to start the seventh inning, scored the winning run on Cerrillo's fly ball into shallow centerfield. He raced home and slid safely into home as Matt Burkart's throw went up the third-base line.
The Huskies (3-2) needed runs in the sixth and seventh innings to come back for the win.
Northern Colorado jumped ahead 2-0 in the third inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs off Husky starter Jordan Jones. A couple of Bears reached via a hit by pitch and bunt base hit in front of No. 3 hitter Tyler Yamaguchi, who ended up reaching safely with two outs on a fielding error at third base. Cleanup hitter Jack Pauley took advantage of the miscue by lacing a single into right field that scored two.
The Huskies cut the Bears' lead in half in the bottom of the third without the benefit of a base hit. Speedy centerfielder Braiden Ward drew a one-out walk, took second on a wild pitch, stole third and came home on another wild pitch.
UW tied things up in the sixth inning, thanks to head's up base running and a clutch two-out hit. Third baseman Nick Roberts singled to second base with runners on first and second, allowing Kaiser Weiss to score. Weiss never slowed down when rounding third base and scored standing up after Roberts beat out a bang-bang play at first base.
Stevie Emanuels came on in relief in the seventh inning after Jones issued a lead-off walk in the seventh to pick up the win. Jones went six strong innings, allowing just the two unearned runs. He struck out seven, walked one and surrendered four hits.
